Nestled among the Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges, the popular hill town of Dalhousie is a well developed cantonment town with Victorian Bungalows, situated in the Chamba district of the north-western Himachal Pradesh. Dalhousie is named after Lord Dalhousie, the Marquess of Dalhousie Castle, and who was the Governor-General of India from 1848 to 1856.
Dalhousie is the gateway to the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh and is built on and around five hills namely Kathlog, Portreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun. These hills are covered with trees like oak, rhododendron, pine and cedar. Dalhousie is located at an altitude of 2030 metres above sea level and covers an area of about 13 sq. km.
St. John\'s Church is the oldest church in Dalhousie. Built in the Gothic style and located amidst a beautiful natural backdrop, St. John\'s Church is one of the most visited churches in Dalhousie. The other churches in and around Dalhousie are St. Andrew\'s church, St. Patrick\'s church and St. Francis\' Church. The temples that attract pilgrims as well as tourists are Laxmi Narayan Temple, Hariraya Temple and Chamunda Devi Temple.

The main trek route is the 12 km long trek to Khajjiar which takes you through some very beautiful topography. The other trails are the treks to Kala Tope and Bakrota Loop.
