Coimbatore, also known as Kovai is the second largest city of Tamil Nadu. A major commercial centre, Coimbatore is often referred to as the \"Manchester of South India\". Munnar is a beautiful hill station in the state of Kerala, situated at a distance of about 150 kilometers from Coimbatore. Munnar was the summer resort of the British. Munnar lies at a height of about 1,500 to 2,695 meters above mean sea level.
Munnar is famous for its tea plantations and many tourists come here to see the vast tea plantations. The highest peak of South India, Anamudi (2,695 m), is also in Munnar. Eravikulam National Park near Munnar is home to one of the endangered animal species of India - Nilgiri Tahr.
Reaching from Coimbatore to Munnar is fairly easy as both are well connected by road. Many buses are available to travel from Coimbatore to Munnar. Both Private and government agencies (Kerala & Tamil Nadu) run regular bus services from Coimbatore to Munnar. Traveling by bus is the cheapest mode of transport from Coimbatore to Munnar. Buses take almost seven hours to reach from Coimbatore to Munnar. The bus fare varies according to the type of bus. Travelling from Coimbatore to Munnar by bus is more suited to backpack travelers and youngsters.
